Kids, Parents and Seniors: Get Ready for Fun!

Kids, parents and seniors, you know its summertime when the things to do outside multiply like a trumpet vine! This weekend you can listen to the gut-busting blues of Hazel Miller, or the Rocky Mountain High of a John Denver sound-alike or groove to the purple jams of a Prince tribute artist! It’s a weekend of summer camp, music under the stars and more in the great outdoors near Castle Rock!

FAMILY YOGA IN THE PARK
Kids, adults, seniors and goats (just kidding!) all turn out for an hour of outdoor yoga in the park. No previous yoga training or experience necessary, just come as you are and enjoy posing in the fresh air!

CAMP DCL: BE A DETECTIVE!

DRINKIN’ BROS LIVE!
Who are the Drinkin’ Bros? Mat Best, Jarred Taylor, Vincent Vargas and Ross Patterson are four friends and military vets who get together every week for a podcast and a drink. FREE VBS: PAUL IN ROME
With meals and snacks, activities and history reenactments, you can drop the kids off or enjoy meals before VBS kicks into high gear. Kids (potty-trained through fifth grade) will experience the thrill of visiting an underground church and learn about first-century Rome. There’ll be a Roman marketplace, a chariot race, watchful Roman guards, the dark cave where the first Christians gathered and the amazing Paul, who shares his discoveries about God’s love.

BIKES AND BADGES RODEO
Bike safety is the name of the game at this year’s sunny outdoor Bike Rodeo. Kids, bring your bikes and helmets and the Castle Rock Police officers will set up a cone course and “ride along” to discuss bike safety.

GUITAR SHOW AND SALE
The Colorado Guitar Show and Custom Luthier Expo has become the leading buy-sell-trade event for new, used, custom-built and vintage collectible guitars in Colorado and the surrounding Western states. The event is open to the public and along with guitars, amplifiers, microphones, public address systems and recording gear will be on display and for sale in a safe, fun, family-friendly environment! Attendees are allowed to bring in ONE musical instrument to have appraised or to trade.

WALKING TOUR: THE ROCK
The Castle Rock Historical Society and Museum will conduct a walking tour of downtown Castle Rock the fourth Saturday of every month from June to September. Enjoy the sun and the outdoors in this 45-minute tour which begins at The Courtyard and finishes at the Castle Rock Museum (420 Elbert St.).

KidsJOHN DENVER TRIBUTE
Friends of Castlewood Canyon State Park have invited Mark Cormican a songwriter, singer, and John Denver tribute artist to perform as a fund-raising event for the park this weekend. For the past 35 years, Mark has blessed audiences with his singing, song-writing and his genuinely sincere tribute to the late John Denver. Like John Denver, Mark has a way of relating to people through song, his love for the people and places he holds most dear. A valid Colorado state parks pass is required to enter the park.

RUMPELSTILTSKIN IN THE PARK
Theatre in the Park and Vintage Theatre present Rumpelstiltskin, an outdoor, interactive theatre adventure for the whole family! The miller’s daughter may be clever and beautiful, but that won’t save her from the wicked Rumpelstiltskin and his nasty games! Can she chase him out of the kingdom or will he steal her baby? It’s an acting event in the great outdoors this weekend!

MINECRAFT FLIX
If you know a fan of Minecraft, bring them to this camp where science and imagination collide, turning the popular video game into an exciting Minecraft world made out of paper. Using stop-motion animation, students will bring Steve, the creepers, animals, and more to life. Students will write, storyboard, shoot, and add voice-over in age appropriate groups to their projects. For kids ages 7-13. (The flix will be downloadable within a month after camp ends.)

BIKE TO WORK DAY!
Bike to Work Day is about the fun, fitness and eco-friendly results of commuting to work on bikes! The city encourages local residents to two-wheel it – not just to enhance city air quality by cutting down on vehicle congestion but also to get your blood pumping in the great outdoors! Other alternate modes of transportation – like walking and carpooling – also are encouraged.

Pedal over to the festivities at the Pavilion – food, drinks, prizes, music and fun with fellow bikers!

THE ROBOTS ARE COMING!
The National Geographic movie ROBOTS 3D is a sneak peek into the future at what might be possible as scientists use innovative engineering and design to make cyber characters less “humanoid” and more just plain human.
