Backcountry Drive-In Movie, And More!

The Backcountry Wilderness Area in Highlands Ranch is offering a bunch of great activities for families as well as adults in need of a grown-ups night out! Learn how to shoot a bow and arrow or hang out in a socially-distanced outdoor area for an outdoor movie. There’s even a movie, dinner, and beer option for adults!

TODAY/TONIGHT, August 13

BOW AND ARROW LESSON
This fun sport will have you feeling like a hero or heroine in a mythical tale! Take a beginning archery lesson and learn all about the recurve bow, range safety, and the proper shot process to be successful. A certified instructor from Quick Draw Archery will teach a small group outdoors, so social distancing will be in place.

This class is appropriate for individuals, couples, families—anyone over the age of 7 is welcome! You’ll get tons of information and plenty of time to work on your skill development. Equipment is included.

TOY STORY 2 – OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT
Join Woody, Buzz and the whole Toy Story gang when they appear on a giant outdoor screen in Discovery Park! This FREE screening is the perfect opportunity for a family night out, with plenty of room to spread out and social distance. There will be popcorn and candy, too—and the movie provides the laughs!

VIRTUAL STORYTIME AT HOME
If you’d rather keep the kiddos at home, Douglas County Libraries has a fun activity for pre-schoolers that you can join from the safety of your own computer! Storytime at Douglas County Libraries emphasizes five simple activities — reading, talking, writing, singing and playing — that help children learn the skills to be ready to read. And now, you can tune in online, every weekday!

X-TRAIN WORKOUT
Your weekly FREE workout in the park will have you working up a sweat this week! Join the Family Fitness Series for a great X-Train session. All fitness levels and age groups are encouraged to attend! Pre-registration is required to ensure capacity allows for social distancing.

WATCH UP OUTSIDE!
The funny, sweet Pixar movie, cherished by kids and adults alike, will be showing on a giant outdoor movie screen at Backcountry Base Camp! Up is a journey across the world and through the hearts of two lovable characters who don’t know how much they need each other. 

Bring your picnic dinner, favorite movie snacks, and blankets or camp chairs. Groups will remain distanced during the film. You must purchase tickets in advance online.

TUNES ON THE TERRACE WITH HAZEL MILLER 
It will almost seem like a normal summer night when you head out to Lone Tree for their popular Tunes on the Terrace concert series! Local music icon Hazel Miller will be “bringing it” with her powerful voice that always delights audiences. Miller and her band, The Collective, play a versatile mix of original, Jazz, blues, R&B and popular tunes, adding their own flavor to each song! They’ll have you dancing in your seat all night long! Social distancing will be in effect, and wine, beer, and cocktails will be available for sale.

Saturday, August 15

PARKER QUEST
This interactive, real-time detective hunt will take you all over downtown Parker on a quest to uncover historical secrets! You’ll receive a passport and clues that will help you discover interesting hidden places around town. Choose a short or long path and travel at your own pace. There will be special activities for kids under 12. Find goodie bags and fun surprises at the end of your quest. Don’t forget to wear a mask and please practice social distancing!

PARIS STREET MARKET 
Bonjour! Spend the day strolling through an open-air, vintage street market in the style of old-time Paris! Local and regional vendors will be arranged at appropriately socially-distanced booths, displaying a bevy of unique goods! You can enter the market through the parking lot near Macy’s & Perry’s Steakhouse or through the indoor shopping center underneath Forever 21.

PRINCESS MEET AND GREET
Give your own little princess a chance to meet and mingle with her favorite princess: the Snow Queen, the Snow Princess, the Polynesian Princess, Sleeping Beauty, or the Little Mermaid. Due to COVID-19, this year’s event has been modified to allow for maximum physical distancing while still providing the opportunity for you and your children to meet special princesses.

Pre-register for a 5-minute slot with the princesses, and don’t forget to bring your camera! With each registration, you’ll receive a $10 Outlets at Castle Rock gift card when you check-in at the event! Don’t want to attend in person? A limited number of virtual greeting videos will be available.

FAMILY GOLF NIGHT
This non-competitive family night out gives families up to four members a chance to golf together while social distancing from other families. You’ll receive a boxed picnic and range balls to warm up before the event. You’ll be given a tee time via email when you register in advance.

PICNIC AND FIREWORKS
There’s still time in the summer to enjoy an old-fashioned evening in the park, gathering (at social distances) with friends, family, and community members. There will be food trucks, FREE kids’ activities, live music—and best of all, a professional fireworks display!

DRIVE-IN BINGO AND A MOVIE
Come out before dark to join in on a few fun rounds of drive-in bingo prior to the movie screening! Hilarious family-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy will be screened at dusk. Treat the family to a fun night out where you can socialize safely. Ticket price includes 4 sets of bingo cards as well as the movie. There will also be food and drink available for purchase.

This special outdoor movie screening is for a much-needed grown-ups night out! Bring along your favorite movie snacks and blankets or camp chairs. Groups will remain distanced during the film.

FESTIVAL PARK FARMERS’ MARKET
It’s the peak of the produce season, and there’s nothing better than choosing your own locally-grown fruits and vegetables at the Farmers’ Market in the park! Bring the family and let them pick their favorites! There will also be homemade goodies, jams, breads and more! If you prefer a virtual market experience, you’ll have the ability to shop the market from your phone, then pick up your order.

OUTDOOR YOGA PRACTICE
Whether you are a yoga master or just beginning, this FREE session in the park is available for adults 18 and over. Find out how much better an outdoor practice can be!
