ARTIST RECEPTION: PACE
Come celebrate with Wendy Wetmore at the Artist Reception for her solo art show – the BAUHAUS Art into Industry Ausstellung! Inspired by Bauhaus, arguably the single most influential modernist art school of the 20th century, this visual work explores Bauhaus concepts through a modern “lens.” Here, Wendy explores some of the Bauhaus ideology through collaboration with dancers and models. Using mass-produced products such as plumbing pipe, strings of holiday lights, fiber-optic filament, and plastic rods, Wendy has created shapes for her subjects to interact and dance with. Each person brings their own style and expression to objects of rationalism, breathing life into them with the movement of dance and motion.

Wendy works with dancers regularly in her personal and commercial image-making. Through choreography, dance can be deeply personal, as in a solo performance – or it can be repetitious or robotic. In this series, Wendy combines the uniqueness of the dancer’s movement with the simpler – more abstract and rational – shapes that they dance with. Refreshments will be available and this is a FREE event, but please RSVP so they can have a head count.

BEN ROY LIVE
If you aren’t familiar with Ben Roy, he’s been taking comedy audiences by storm since 2004, bringing high energy and a unique voice to the stage. Often compared to Lewis Black or Bill Hicks due to his passionate, ranting approach, Roy has a style that is definitively his own.

Roy cut his comedic teeth in Denver at Comedy Works. Since then, he has been selected to perform at many comedy festivals and has been featured on HBO’s Funny as Hell series; as well as on the Comedy Central shows Adam DeVine’s House PartyCorporate@midnight, and This Is Not Happening. Ben has released three stand-up comedy albums and was listed as one of Variety’s Top 10 Comics to Watch in 2015. He just recorded his first hour comedy special with 800 Pound Gorilla Records at Comedy Works.

Along with fellow Denver Comedians Adam Cayton-Holland and Andrew Orvedahl (who collectively perform as The Grawlix), Ben, writes and stars in TruTV’s original comedy series Those Who Can’t, which ran for three seasons. In addition to stand-up comedy, Roy is a prolific musician, currently the lead singer of SPELLS.

VINNIE MONTEZ
As a 20-plus-year veteran of law enforcement, (at least some of that tenure in Boulder) his experiences as a cop and his Mexican heritage are the foundation for his comedy: you just can’t make some of this stuff up. Vinnie got into comedy in 2007 as a means of addressing the stress and trauma of dealing with horrible situations. His first comedy special debut was on Dry Bar Comedy, released in 2019, Vinnie Montez: Armed & Hilarious. For anyone who appreciates cleaner comedy than the X-and-R rated variety – check Vinnie out. He makes fun of everyone from Subaru drivers to millennial cops. Seriously funny.

With a focus on telling funny stories about being a police officer and promoting better mental health for the men and women in blue, he is a favorite at events around the nation.

MAHLER 9
A revelation. Simply breathtaking. Gustav Mahler’s last completed symphony will reverberate in our hearts as Music Director Josep Caballé-Domenech ends his twelve-year tenure with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. Gustav Mahler’s symphonies, as the above quote suggests, are more than musical compositions; they are worlds unto themselves. Mahler conceived them as such, and they envelop the listener in a realm complete with its own language, symbolism, and meaning. This is where interpretations of Mahler’s music, particularly the Ninth Symphony, become exquisitely, fascinatingly complicated, and even problematic. Any discussion of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony must address the extent to which the meaning assigned to this work has been mythologized. Ever since its premiere in 1912, the Ninth Symphony has been interpreted as Mahler’s “farewell to life.”

During the performance, the musicians will share songs of mountain men, explorers, farmers, ranchers, and miners, and will finish the show with recognizable and modern Colorado songs.

MY FAIR LADY
“A masterpiece of entertainment.  A sumptuous, thrilling new revival of THE MOST PERFECT MUSICAL OF ALL TIME.” – Entertainment Weekly

From Lincoln Center Theater that brought you The King & I and South Pacific, comes director Bartlett Sher’s glowing production that’s been billed as “thrilling, glorious and better than it ever was” (New York Times).  “Every so often a revival comes along that reminds you how indispensable great theater can be” (NY1). Boasting such classic songs as “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “On the Street Where You Live,” MY FAIR LADY tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady.”  But who is really being transformed?
