WESTERN HERITAGE WELCOME
During the 1800s, large herds of cattle were driven through Colorado. The route known as the “Goodnight-Loving Trail” started just east of Colorado Springs and passed through the area on the way to the stockyards in Denver. This event helps honor that heritage. Castle Rock’s western heritage is alive and well! Don’t miss this weekend of activities to celebrate Douglas County’s history and honor a longstanding tradition – the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo. Western Heritage Welcome kicks off the celebration as the Old West comes to life. Watch as cowhands from Silverado Ranch drive a herd of longhorn cattle through downtown Castle Rock! Starting at Rock Park, the herd will continue along Perry Street before completing the journey right in front of the Castle Rock Police Department.

Lots of Western activities will take place in Festival Park, too! The Park County Regulators, a team of Old West reenactment actors, will perform a wild west show, you can take an “historic” photo with the family, and much more!

CATCH LITTLE FEAT ON TOUR
Little Feat have indeed led a storied life ever since they formed in 1969. From then on, their unconventional signature of earthy, organic appeal and polished, first-rate musicianship wrapped around eclectic and memorable songs–clearly delivered as an authentic labor of love–has been a lasting fixture on the musical landscape. As American as apple pie and rock ‘n roll itself, Little Feat’s music transcends boundaries: a freewheeling fusion of California rock and Dixie-inflected funk-boogie. In the mix as well are strains of folk, blues, rockabilly, country and jazz, inventing a hybrid sound that is truly Little Feat’s own. Time has loved these musical heroes for more than three decades now, as have legions of fans and countless fellow musicians, many of whom they’ve played with over the years. Feat’s fabled collaborators have included Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Beck, Brian Wilson, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, and John Lee Hooker. Friday’s performance will feature Jerry Douglas, Kyle Hollingsworth and Ronnie McCoury. Little Feat will no doubt be sailin’ into the future with no end in sight.

FATHER FEATHERBOTTOM’S FORGOTTEN FAIRYTALES
Featherbottom was Mother Goose’s only child. Every day he listened to her tales and dreamed of becoming a storyteller, just like her. When he grew up, he wrote new stories for a whole new generation of kids. Now, Father Featherbottom’s adopted children, Florian and Finnian, are traveling far and wide to spread those tales to kids everywhere! Father Featherbottom’s Forgotten Fairytales is an interactive children’s show featuring two actors, a collection of colorful puppets, and modern lessons for contemporary kids. In five original stories, children will meet: A cheese-mongering young woman who doesn’t need a prince to solve her problems; A fairy who learns the magical power of honesty; A goblin who won’t consent to pushy goats trying to cross his bridge; A robot that discovers emotions (and why it’s ok to feel them); and Villagers who must work together to save their town from a greedy dragon.

Bring a blanket, sit in the shade, and have some FREE Featherbottom fairytale fun this summer!

THREE DOG NIGHT
Legendary music icons, THREE DOG NIGHT, are celebrating nearly five decades in the industry, racking up some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. From 1969 to 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than THREE DOG NIGHT. Their music is woven through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures — songs like “Mama Told Me (Not To Come)”, “Joy to the World”, “Black and White”, “Shambala” and “One” demonstrate their amazing talent and longevity.

This Grammy-nominated band recorded the music of the best (and mostly undiscovered) new songwriters of that time including Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Elton John, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Hoyt Axton among many others. The group’s eclectic taste, combined with its ability to recognize and record hits in a unique, distinctive and appealing style, resulted in THREE DOG NIGHT dominating the charts for years.
