Craft Shows, Whiskey Samples — Where to Begin?

From craft shows to craft whiskey, we’ve got it all for you this weekend! Depending on your tastes, you can sample a variety of whiskeys, see Sherlock Holmes cross over from the “other side,” run a race – or two, or three – and touch the three-and-a-half ton truck of your choice. It’s everything you’ve been waiting all week for, in and around Castle Rock.

Tonight, October 6

JOHNNIE WALKER: THE ART OF BLENDING
Distilling whiskey is a science, blending it is an art. Discover how Johnnie Walker became the number one selling Scotch in the world with Master of Whisky, Alastair Menzies, at the Whisky Series Night at the Castle.

The four whiskeys to be sampled include: Johnnie Walker Black Label, Johnnie Walker Double Black Label, Johnnie Walker Gold Label and Johnnie Walker Platinum Label. Reservations include a welcome cocktail, castle mini-tours and light appetizers. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase.

FRANCHISE EXPO WEST
Thousands of entrepreneurs will gather this weekend for the premier franchise event in the western U.S. With investments starting at less than $5,000, potential business owners will have the rare opportunity to meet face-to-face with more than 200 franchise brands at nearly every investment level.

This year’s event will offer a look into the hottest trends in the franchise industry – ranging from restaurants and fitness clubs to auto repairs and pet supply stores – with as little as a $5,000 investment and up. With 60 free seminars and five in-depth workshops there will also be one-on-one consulting, financial discounts, and popular speakers like Marcus Lemonis, host of CNBC’s The Profit,

SHOCK WAVE FASHION
View the gorgeous works of Japanese designers who started a fashion revolution in Paris in the 1980s-90s. This exhibition will feature 70 looks by powerhouse designers including Issey Miyake, Kenzo Takada, Kansai Yamamoto and Yohji Yamamoto.

Works on view will illustrate the intersection of tradition and modernity; the influence of pop culture; molding the body versus hiding it with oversized shapes; reinventing and other ways of designers challenged fashion boundaries.

WOODCARVING COMPETITION (AND SALE)
Sponsored by the Colorado Carvers Club, this competition reveals what the serious craft of woodworking is all about. Artisans will compete and display their artistic works in uniquely handcrafted items for holiday gifts to give away or one-of-a-kind accessories to keep. Just 35 minutes from Castle Rock.

TOUCH-A-TRUCK
Anybody in your family want to get up close and personal with a three-and-a-half ton vehicle? Step right up and touch a police car, fire truck, ambulance, or helicopter! How about a hummer, wrecker, cement mixer, front loader or “Tow Mater” from the Pixar movie Cars? There will be food trucks and music and plenty of huge untouchable — until now — vehicles!

RUN, WALK AND LIVE BIG!
The liveBIG 5K, 10K and Family Adventure Run are aimed at enjoying the fall colors on natural surface trails. The liveBIG Family Adventure Run will wind through kid-friendly obstacles, including the Philip S. Miller Challenge Hill, in a short one-mile course. Immediately following the race, get your funk on at a free concert and plenty of food trucks! Paizley Park, a Prince-tribute band will take the stage at the Philip S. Miller Amphitheater starting at 12:00 p.m.

ULTRA-MARATHON
craftHaven’t logged enough miles this weekend? Here’s a 50K, ultra-marathon, a half-marathon and a 12K to fill the gap on freshly cut, soft surface trails while you take in the surrounding buttes and scenic views of Castle Rock.

HIGHLANDS RANCH CRAFT SHOW
This two-day show features over 100 exhibitors with items handcrafted by local and other artisans. From jewelry, bath products, pottery, wooden crafts, floral arrangements, wreaths, baby and children’s items, fused glass vases and bowls, hand-knit scarves, shawls, afghans and many other artistic pieces, crafts and apparel.
