Decorate Your Porch for Fall!

POSTED September 14, 2021

About the time temperatures drop and the leaves and summer blooms have fallen to the ground, it’s time to think about adding autumn color interest to your front yards and porches.  Take a look at some of these fall porch décor and design ideas, images, and how-tos from a wide range of style-wise divas.

Fall Décor Outside and Inside

From cornstalks wrapped in fall leaves, mums interspersed with scarecrows, settee pillows, gourds and plenty of pumpkins, HGTV celebrates autumn with the season’s best looks for porches and patios.

Pinterest, the ubiquitous online idea and inspiration site, will lead you to images to help you DIY everything from pumpkin porch-scapes to fall table décor to get you ready for Thanksgiving, the pinnacle of all fall holidays.

For more mantel décor, entryway tableaus, centerpieces, porch arrangements, the Southern Living guide to fall decorating includes apples and succulents, living and dried items, for more than 90 ideas for fall décor.

The Prudent Penny Pincher curated multiple ideas for fall porch décor incorporating gold, amber, orange, brown, black, white and ecru – the recognizable colors of the season. While there are farm houses and ranches throughout Castle Rock and Douglas/Elbert counties, Crystal Valley doesn’t have many in the community but don’t let that deter you!

There’s something undeniably welcoming about country, farmhouse and rustic accessories. From distressed rockers with pumpkin pillows to wheat sheaves poking out of white tin (also distressed) pitchers, this tableau from One Kind Design is one worth imitating.

And finally, balancing baby Emma on her hip, Lynn White literally steps out some front porch décor for you with pumpkins and an inviting porch swing; and because we love a good flea market flip as much as the next person, check out these fall decorating ideas from Better Homes & Gardens. A broken rake can become a one-of-a-kind front door accent piece with red and juniper berries, the former you can get at Amazon in 3-pack branches.

Fresh and Colorful Crafty Pumpkins

Home Stories A to Z created a display of pale pumpkins, some stacked in topiaries, others rimming a selection of a fall favorite: yellow-orange mums. Reclaimed wooden crates were interspersed to provide a backdrop for the flowers and pulled into the arrangement with a small cream-colored pumpkin. Conveniently, blogger Beth’s front door and mailbox blended beautifully with her choice of pumpkins and mums, for a color-coordinated autumnal presentation.

A Night Owl blog provided this idea featuring white (imitation) pumpkins perched in a rusted galvanized steel tub, stenciled with the words “Farm Fresh Pumpkins 50¢/LB”. The rust is fabricated with paint, and the stencil was made with a cutting machine called a Cricut. A Night Owl offers up a template — if you happen to have a Cricut of your own!

The white pumpkins (Michael’s craft pumpkins – at Allen Way in Castle Rock) are a touch of class, especially when complemented by a few fall floral picks, like wheat grasses, cotton stems and these pine cone, rose and hydrangea combo stems.

Simple Statements for Fall

Wreaths are always a welcoming fall statement and you can buy instead of DIY these simple swags, sprays and arrangements from Piper Classics with a rural, rustic, and somewhat countrified feel (think galvanized gas cans, milk cans, wooden signs and Vintage designs). Or check out the selection of wreaths at Pottery Barn, Walmart, Pier 1 and Kohl’s.  Or you can head to the nearest Michael’s or Hobby Lobby (on New Beale St. in Castle Rock) and select your own floral stems and all kinds of other porch décor to match your individual design tastes.
