Treat Dad to Some Fun this Weekend!

POSTED June 15, 2017

This weekend, we celebrate Dad! And depending on his interests, you’ll find everything from a tribute to Tweet, yoga in the park, a classic car show and on-the-job spy training! Choose from live music, stand-up comedy, street parties and drag races all revving things up this Father’s Day weekend!

Discovery Park hosts live music performances on Thursday nights all summer long. Tonight’s concert features Ryan Chrys and The Rough Cuts, a band whose genre is “modern outlaw country”, and last year’s winner of the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame’s Entertainer of the Year award. Taking cues from outlaw country pioneers like Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, Chrys and company lay down a collection of fueled-up, twangy jams intermixed with heartfelt ballads.

Heralded as one of our country’s foremost comics, Paula Poundstone’s quick-thinking, unscripted approach to comedy led to an HBO special, Cats, Cops and Stuff for which she won the Cable ACE Award for Best Standup Comedy Special — the first woman to ever receive that award. Her second special for HBO, Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard, was the first time the university allowed its name to be used in a television show title. Paula is included in Comedy Central’s list of 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time, has guested on all the late-night talk shows, several television specials, and Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Still, Paula considers her greatest achievement being a mom of three children, and lives with them in Santa Monica along with two dogs and 14 cats!
