Alternative Easter Dinner Ideas!

POSTED March 23, 2021

With vaccine rollouts bringing welcome opportunities for family reunions, Easter dinner this year will be extra special for many families. Or maybe you’re looking forward to  celebrating the arrival of spring with all the hopefulness of fresh greens at your table! Bring new life to your spring festivities with alternative approaches to your traditional menus!

Like Thanksgiving and Christmas, Easter conjures a set menu for most families: ham and various traditional side dishes. Take a look at some alternative ideas for the holiday from Country Living and bring some excitement to your Easter table!

If you’re celebrating spring and all the new life of the season, you won’t want to miss these healthy spring recipes from Feasting at Home! With an emphasis on fresh produce, most of these recipes are green and vegetarian.

No-Ham Easter Entrees

There are plenty of delicious alternatives to the traditional Easter ham—why not try one this year? The Kitchn’s recipe for Buttermilk-Poached Salmon is a healthy and mouthwatering option that even beginning cooks can pull off!

For a more formal entree option, nothing beats a Pork Crown Roast from Southern Living. And traditionalists will appreciate delectable Plum-Glazed Lamb from Taste of Home.

It’s All in the Sides

Especially in the springtime, side dishes rule! The weather is still cool enough to use the oven to make elaborate complements for your entree, but we’re also craving salads and fresh greens. Try something new on your holiday table and maybe it will become a new family classic!

No matter what your entree is, this delicious side of Brown Sugar-Glazed Carrots from Tara Teaspoon will have everyone reaching for seconds. Guaranteed kid-friendly!

This elegantly-presented Potato Cake from Bon Appetit tastes as good as it looks! The secret is in the preparation and the careful layering and assembling of the thinly-sliced butter-immersed potatoes.

Galettes and Salads – with a Twist

A holiday is the perfect excuse for learning how to make a new staple! The crust of a rustic galette is made from rough puff pastry dough, which gives you the flaky tenderness of fine puff pastry without all the hassle!

This savory Leek and Kale Galette  uses a  free-formed flaky crust wrapping a filling of  leeks, kale gruyere and mascarpone for the perfect balance of decadent and wholesome. It will add panache to your spring dinner table—and will also provide you with the know-how for making future galettes!

Just when you thought you’d tried every salad that’s ever been invented! A Shaved Asparagus and Parmesan Salad is something new and takes advantage of tender spring asparagus shoots!

Why Not Easter Brunch?

Maybe your Easter celebration will be scaled back this year with just your immediate family at the table. An Easter Brunch could be a great way to celebrate the day without the fuss of a big dinner!

These entrees go above and beyond normal brunch fare—so they’re the perfect menu items for an Easter brunch! The Spruce Eats recommends Brodetto Pasquale or Lamb and Asparagus Frittata, a traditional rustic Italian dish made at Easter. A kid-friendly take on brunch is a one-dish meal that includes tater tots, in this Egg and Tater Bake from Woman’s Day.

Why not go all out and make the most decadent French Toast possible? This Bananas Foster French Toast recipe combines all the ingredients of the indulgent dessert and packs it into a breakfast entree!
