Residents of Crystal Valley in Castle Rock will have an assortment of activities and attractions to choose from this weekend, with a lifestyle expo, job fair, fitness classes and a father-daughter dance to remember. It’s all here and near!

Thursday, February 2

DOUGLAS COUNTY JOB FAIR
This event is facilitated by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce with the goal of raising awareness about employment opportunities in Douglas County, and to foster a thriving startup community. Employers at the Job Fair will represent a wide variety of industries and have several different types of positions for which they will be hiring.

DAVID SCHULTZ MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL
This wrestling tournament with daily scheduled match activities is held in honor of the accomplished wrestler Dave Schultz, whose life and death were depicted in the 2014 movie Team Foxcatcher.

TAI CHI LECTURE AND DEMO
Join acupuncture and Chinese Medicine expert Avi Ginsberg (NCCAOM certified and licensed in New York, Utah and Colorado) as he demystifies Qi Gong. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. Guests will learn the physical benefits of body alignment and posture, stretching and strengthening techniques, and the mechanics of proper movement. Participants are encouraged to wear clothes suitable for stretching activities.

CHILDREN’S THEATRE AUDITIONS
Spotlight Performing Arts Center is holding auditions for Moana, The Full-Length Musical for ages 6-18. For those who get “called back, there will follow a 15-week class teaching acting, dance, and vocal techniques while preparing for the full-length musical production. Classes will be on Fridays from 4-5:30 pm. Performances will be held in May. Please call in advance for tuition rates.

SCREENING: CALENDAR GIRLS
As part of the Douglas County Libraries’ Love Is in the Air film series, the event hall at the Lone Tree Library will be screening the 2004 movie Calendar Girls starring Helen Mirren and Julie Waters. Appropriate for ages 14 and over; for more information about the movie content, click here.

FATHER-DAUGHTER SWEETHEART BALL
What an opportunity to create wonderful memories full of fun, laughter, love and dancing with your daughter! The ball tickets include a corsage and special gift for every sweetheart and refreshments, as well as a commemorative photo of father-daughter pairs.

activitiesCOLORADO DULCIMER FESTIVAL
If you’re a dulcimer fan or fanatic, the 14th Annual Colorado Dulcimer Festival is the place to learn how to play, improve your technique, or just enjoy the many styles of music. From Celtic and retro pop to bluegrass and even jazz and ragtime, nationally known players will be teaching Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer techniques. Activities and concerts are open to the public with tickets available at the door both nights.

LIFESTYLE EXPO
Presented by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, the Lifestyle Expo offers Douglas County residents an opportunity to browse and explore products and services throughout Douglas County. Admission to the expo is free to the public, and you can check out a list of vendors here. The day begins with the Freeze Your Buns Off 5K race at the Douglas County Event Center at 8:45 a.m.

PIZZA WITH POKEMON

Did you know your favorite Pokémon characters are inspired by real animals? Meet five critters that are so cool, they have their own Pokémon creature! Learn about strategies wildlife use to protect themselves, find shelter, and find food. A pizza lunch is included. Ticket is required for each guest. Children under 15 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

IMPROV FOR THE REST OF US
Improvisational comedy is a fun and life-changing performance art form that can boost your self-confidence and help you “think on your feet”! This class will teach the same techniques used by The Second City — the world’s premier comedy club, comedy theatre and school of improvisation. Taught by Grant Garrison, a graduate of The Second City Conservatory, participants age 18 and over are welcome with any experience level and will have the opportunity to perform for Parker Arts Comedy and Cocktails!

Another Douglas County Libraries’ Love is in the Air event to help you hail Valentine’s Day is this wine with chocolate tasting. The Chocolate Therapist will be serving chocolates with perfectly paired wines to sample. Must be age 21 and over.

BLUEGRASS AT THE SCHOOLHOUSE
The Stanleytones Bluegrass Band and Ran Off the Rooster will both perform. The Stanleytones are named for bluegrass greats, brothers Ralph and Carter who played throughout the 1950s until Carter’s death in 1966. They will play timeless classics and original songs. Ran Off the Rooster is a women-powered string band that combines bluegrass instrumentation and killer three-part harmonies.

PIZZA AND FLATBREADS
