WOMEN COMPOSERS
This special concert of symphonic works, all of which were composed by women, is Parker Symphony Orchestra’s way of celebrating (a little early) National Women’s History Month in March.

These stunning but lesser-know works from the time of Mozart through the twentieth century will astound you in their beauty and complexity. One particular composer, Florence Price, is also part of February’s Black History Month. As a gifted black woman, her story of the obstacles she had to overcome is made even more poignant by the beauty of her music. The program includes Overture in C by Fanny Mendelssohn, Rissolty Rossolty by R.C. Seeger, J. Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, Mississippi River Suite by Florence Price, O Virtus Sapientie by Hildegard von Bingen, and Overture to Der Schulkandidat by Maria Theresia von Paradis.

HANSEL AND GRETEL AS AN OPERA
The whole family will love this kid-friendly introduction to opera with a familiar fairy tale! The professional opera company, Opera Colorado, is back in the neighborhood with a performance that’s accessible to all. This children’s opera production of the classic fairy-tale is designed specifically with younger children and their families in mind. No scary elements—the witch is wonderfully wacky—and Hansel and Gretel come up with inventive ways to escape from her gingerbread cottage.

The opera is sung in English and staged traditionally, so even the youngest audience members will be able to follow the story. After the performance, you’ll receive a gingerbread cookie recipe, Hansel and Gretel coloring pages, crayons, and a sticker from Parker’s newest book store, Books Are Awesome!

PACE Center, 20000 Pikes Peak Ave., Parker

BULL RIDING CHALLENGE
The most exciting of rodeo events stands alone in this exhibition of sheer guts and skill.  This contest is for both bull-riders and the bulls! Bull-riders will compete for a grand prize to see who can remain the longest on the back of the bucking bull. And more than 100 bulls will be scored individually, even if the rider doesn’t stay on for the required eight seconds. The owner of the winning bull will also be awarded a prize.

Everyone’s favorite activity involves mini-bulls and young bull-riders who hope to win a prize of their own. This is great family entertainment, complete with a wide variety of food, merchandise, and entertainment vendors, including a mechanical bull and pony rides!
