At this point in the pandemic, everyone has figured out how to produce stunning professionally-produced livestreams, which mean that we get to see our favorite local arts and culture events in our homes! This weekend, favorite acts from “before times” like Shawn Popp’s magic show, the Heritage Irish Stepdancers, Cleo Parker Dance, and the nostalgic music duo Bettman & Halpin are back in the area with brand-new performances—this time, streaming live into your living room!

TODAY/TONIGHT, February 18

If you ever dreamed of traveling to the land of the pyramids and Cleopatra, you won’t want to miss this fascinating online presentation! Designed specifically for people experiencing mild memory loss, early stage Alzheimer’s, or a related dementia—as well as their family, friends, and guests—the SPARK! series of lectures is completely virtual and conducted through Zoom. Imagine an amazing virtual magic show live-streaming straight into your living room! Popular magician and sleight-of-hand artist Shawn Popp is back, delivering his delightful show online. This exciting event is reserved exclusively for Parker Arts Center Family Circle Members, so if you’re not a member yet, this is a great reason to join!

The entire family will love watching this entertaining mentalist and magician, and as a bonus, you’ll even get to interact with him during the show. The event features online audience participation with tricks that are sure to amaze everyone in your family!

Roll up your rugs and make room for the Heritage Irish Stepdancers! This talented and energetic group of dancers have been performing the very special art of Irish dancing for over 30 years. If you’re a fan of Riverdance-style choreography, you won’t be disappointed by their wonderful group dances! They also perform other types of dance including graceful soft shoe and lively hard shoe routines. 

As part of the Highlands Ranch Winter Cultural Series, the virtual performance is a full cultural experience, with dancers dressed in traditional costumes. Beautiful Celtic music accompanies the dancers, and between each performance, the Heritage emcee will narrate the cultural significance of each dance. Tickets are FREE but you must register to get the link for this livestream event!

Can you imagine a better cause to take part in than helping Colorado bluebirds? These delightful migratory songbirds brighten up the entire Castle Rock area with their signature color and optimistic song! Since 2007 the Colorado Bluebird Project has been monitoring nesting boxes throughout parks, open spaces, trails and schools in an effort to keep populations stable.

Join this virtual open house to learn how you can become a volunteer and help monitor bluebird eggs, hatchlings and the beautiful adult songbirds!

Buy some of your very own original art at the PACE Center Art Gallery—without even leaving your house! This year’s 144 Fine Art Exhibition and Sale is available to view and bid online, with proceeds from the exhibition and sale going towards the PAG Bright Futures High School Art Scholarships fund. If you’d prefer to see the works of art in person, you can do that too! Call to confirm the operating hours of the PACE Center before you come.

Each work of art—including original paintings, sculptures, and photography from local artists—is 144 square inches in dimension. That’s a 12 x 12 canvas or sculptures that fit into a 12 x 12 x 12 cube!

Friday, February 19

Your young artists will jump at the chance to attend an in-person painting workshop! Designed for children ages 6-14, this fun Friday night painting class gives kids the chance to interact with their friends as they learn new techniques in acrylic painting. Each artist will receive everything they need to create their own 12×16 masterpiece that they get to take home!

A favorite award-winning duo you’ve enjoyed watching at the Lone Tree Arts Center in the “before times,” Stephanie Bettman and Luke Halpin are back with a brand-new version of their signature American Songbook concert! This time around, their show is online, but it’s a professionally-produced livestream that can only be watched with the link you receive when you register!

The performance will be a premiere of some of the songs on their upcoming two-volume recording! The musical virtuosity displayed by talented instrumentalist Halpin is the perfect accompaniment to Bettman’s angelic voice, as they perform classics from songwriters like Irving Berlin, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, and Cole Porter. They even include some of their own originals inspired by the style of these classic songs!

Saturday, February 20

Celebrate Black History Month and the joy of flying when you check out this inspiring exhibit at the Englewood location of the Wings Over the Rockies Museum, Exploration of Flight! You’ll get to see two P-51s up close and view Tuskegee Airmen items on display. Learn more about this patriotic group of African Americans soldiers who fought so bravely for our country! Pre-purchased tickets are required.

You’ll learn about records that were created before, during and after the Revolutionary War and how they can help you track down your patriot ancestor. Presented by a professional genealogical and historical researcher who specializes in records of the National Archives, this online workshop will give you the inside scoop about records that are related to the military.

Sunday, February 21

One of Denver’s most respected and beloved dance ensembles, Cleo Parker Dance, returns with a 50-Year Anniversary celebration that’s entirely virtual! As part of Lone Tree Arts Center’s Passport to Culture series, this performance is also a powerful addition to Black History Month. 

Rise and Move is a series of choreographed pieces exploring conflict and healing. True to the challenges of COVID, the pieces on stage will practice social distancing woven into the art of dance along with the joy of community. The professionally-produced livestream requires advance registration, with a “choose what you pay” option for ticket  prices. Remember, you will be supporting arts and culture in our community!
