Tricked-Out Pumpkins!

POSTED October 24, 2017

If you haven’t picked up one or more pumpkins yet to plop on your porch for Halloween (next Tuesday!), scan some of these traditional and unconventional carving and crafting ideas to embellish your entryway!

Traditional Pumpkins

If your Halloween traditions include carving a pumpkin for Halloween, check out these 34 templates from HGTV for carving cutouts, including goofy, grinning and growling Jack-O’-Lantern faces.

pumpkinsFor a twist on the traditional pumpkin faces, DIY Network has a couple of clever and inspirational ideas, like turning a pumpkin on its “ear”, to give it a stem nose! Seeing is believing, and from scary faces with scraggly toothpick teeth, to glowing evil eyes, for ideas for a carved pumpkin face, this is the place!

Carving a pumpkin doesn’t have to mean wielding a big kitchen knife. Martha Stewart offers up cookie-cutter pumpkins by swinging a hammer at your gorgeous gourd. Hers were used to make luminaries for a front walkway illuminated with Christmas lights. Enough of these will light a candy path for little trick or treaters right to your front door!

For over-the-top, tricked-out pumpkins, check out the 27 examples on the Delish website. Some will spark your creativity, others will make you giggle and a few might drop your jaw in awe!

If you’re carving, don’t forget to roast the seeds! Plenty of magnesium (which is good for heart and blood vessels) and all you need is melted butter, a sprinkle of salt and 45 minutes in a hot oven!

No-Carving Required

If cleaning out pumpkin innards isn’t your thing, try this country pumpkin idea from MarlaMeridith.com. Cut out the paisleys and patterns from bandanas (or whatever else you want) and Mod Podge® them onto a freshly picked pumpkin. You can add a layer of paint first for more eye-catching porch décor.

pumpkinsGet the kids in on the fun with glitter pumpkins and a haunted pumpkin fairy garden, also from HGTV, complete with a gnome home and gauzy ghosts.

Another country kick and equally fun for kids is making pumpkins from Mason jar lids. A few lids, a little orange paint and some cinnamon sticks and voilá: pretend pumpkins. It’s the kind of easy but involved craft project they’ll love plus it doesn’t make too much of a mess! (Just don’t forget a makeshift drop cloth for spray-painting the lids!)

Woman’s Day has a bushel of insanely easy no-carving ideas, and so does Country Living with tutorials and free printable templates.

More of Everything!
